CBS' Anti-SLAPP Bid Revived In Anchor-Hiring Suit

Law360, New York (December 11, 2013, 9:29 PM EST) -- A California appeals court has ruled that CBS Broadcasting Inc.’s anti-Strategic Lawsuit Against Public Participation motion to dismiss discrimination claims over its television anchor-hiring practices was improperly denied, saying the claims are based on First Amendment-protected activity, according to a decision published Wednesday.

The Nov. 18 decision sends back to the trial court meteorologist Kyle Hunter’s allegations that two CBS stations discriminated against him by passing him up for on-air positions because he was not an “attractive, young” woman. The lower court had denied CBS’ anti-SLAPP...
