Pop Star Ariana Grande Sued For Stealing Single Line Of Song

Law360, New York (December 12, 2013, 3:24 PM ET) -- A small British music publisher hit pop star Ariana Grande, Sony/ATV Music Publishing, Universal Music Group and others with a copyright infringement lawsuit Wednesday, claiming Grande's “The Way” stole lyrics from a '70s funk tune.

Lodging the suit in Tennessee federal court, Minder Music Ltd. says “The Way” — which spent 26 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 this summer — ripped off a key line from “Troglodyte,” a 1972 funk hit from The Jimmy Castor Bunch that was assigned to Minder in 1991.
