Watchdog Seeks Input On Capital Rules For Insurance Giants

Law360, New York (December 16, 2013, 5:07 PM EST) -- An international insurance watchdog on Monday unveiled a proposal for developing basic capital rules for large insurance groups whose failure could undermine financial stability, asking for input on the proposed framework by February.

The basic capital requirements being crafted by the International Association of Insurance Supervisors would apply to American International Group Inc., MetLife Inc., Prudential Financial Inc. and six others that financial regulators have marked as global systemically important insurers, or G-SIIs.
