EU To Probe U.S. Ban On Internet Gambling

Law360, New York (March 10, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The European Union has launched an investigation into U.S. online gambling laws, which European betting companies have complained are being selectively and unfairly enforced against them.

“The U.S. has the right to address legitimate public policy concerns relating to Internet gambling, but discrimination against EU companies cannot be part of the policy mix,” EU Trade Commissioner Peter Mandelson said in a statement. “We are interested in a constructive and mutually satisfactory solution to this issue.”
