6th Circ. Lifts Injunction On Tribe In Mich. Land Battle

Law360, New York (December 18, 2013, 6:38 PM ET) -- The Sixth Circuit on Wednesday overturned a lower court ruling prohibiting a Native American tribe from taking land into trust for the purpose of building a casino in Michigan.

Michigan had sued the Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians in federal court, arguing that the tribe's request to have the land taken into trust for construction of a casino violated a state compact requiring the tribe to have a revenue-sharing agreement with other Michigan tribes.
