EC To Probe Telefonica's Planned €8.5B E-Plus Buy

Law360, New York (December 20, 2013, 3:14 PM ET) -- The European Commission said on Friday that it will investigate Telefonica Deutschland Holding AG's planned acquisition of E-Plus, a German mobile carrier, to see if the deal will harm competition.

The tie-up between the German businesses of European telecom giants Royal KPN NV and Telefonica SA, proposed in July, falls to the commission for review, the group's antitrust chief said in September, shooting down German authorities' plans to conduct the review.
