Couple Wins $20M Asbestos Verdict

Law360, New York (March 12, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- A California couple was awarded $20 million on Tuesday by a San Francisco jury, which found that Georgia Pacific Corp.'s asbestos-ridden joint compound caused the wife to develop mesothelioma, a debilitating form of cancer in the lining of the lungs.

Georgia Pacific will pay the largest bulk of the verdict, at 30%, because the jury found that the company knew of the dangers of asbestos and still sold the joint compound that contained asbestos dust.
