Sierra Club Challenges Ill. Coal Pollution Waiver

Law360, New York (January 3, 2014, 5:23 PM EST) -- The Sierra Club said Friday that it is appealing the Illinois Pollution Control Board's recent decision to give several coal plants five extra years to meet state health regulations, calling the decision inappropriate and a dangerous precedent.

The group lodged a formal appeal in Illinois state court of the board’s ruling on Dec. 26, contending that allowing California-based Dynegy to wait until 2020 to mitigate the pollution produced by its plants in the state "is clearly erroneous and against the manifest weight of the evidence."...
