Hospital Inks $4M FCA Deal Over Possible Doctor Kickbacks

Law360, New York (January 3, 2014, 5:25 PM EST) -- A Montana hospital will shell out nearly $4 million to resolve potential False Claims Act violations after voluntarily disclosing various payments that could be construed as kickbacks to doctors, the U.S. Department of Justice said Tuesday.

St. James Healthcare and Colorado-based parent company Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth Health System agreed to the $3.85 million payout in connection with financial incentives provided as part of a joint venture between the hospital, doctors and physician groups.
