Bogus Weight Loss Claims Cost Cos. $34M In FTC Settlements

Law360, New York (January 7, 2014, 1:38 PM EST) -- The Federal Trade Commission will collect $34 million that will be distributed to consumers in settlements for allegedly false weight loss product claims made by Sensa LLC, L’Occitane Inc., HCG Diet Direct LLC and LeanSpa LLC, the agency said Tuesday.

Jessica Rich, the director of the FTC’s Bureau of Consumer Protection, said Tuesday an action dubbed “Operation Failed Resolution,” is the agency’s latest nationwide law enforcement effort to protect consumers from deceptive weight loss and body slimming claims.
