ACA Birth Control Rule Respects Religion, High Court Hears

Law360, New York (January 3, 2014, 2:46 PM EST) -- The Obama administration on Friday told the U.S. Supreme Court that religious nonprofits face no serious burden under the Affordable Care Act's birth control mandate, scoffing at the idea that being required to complete an exemption form intrudes on spiritual beliefs.

In opposing an injunction sought by a group of Colorado nuns, government attorneys strongly defended an accommodation that shields faith-based groups from the mandate, so long as they fill out paperwork certifying their religious status.
