SEC, CFTC Sign Cooperation Agreement

Law360, New York (March 12, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission and the Commodities Future Trading Commission have formalized their working relationship by signing a mutual cooperation agreement that will create a permanent liaison between the regulators.

The agreement, signed by the CFTC and SEC on Tuesday, “sets forth several key principles guiding their consideration of novel financial products that may reflect elements of both securities and commodity futures or options.”

The newly formalized collaboration is the result of years of extensive discussion.
