Offshore Safety Rules Top DOI Energy Agenda

Law360, New York (January 7, 2014, 5:29 PM EST) -- Rules for blowout prevention systems for offshore oil and gas drilling and updated safety standards for offshore production systems are among the energy-related regulations on the U.S. Interior Department’s plate in the coming months, according to the semiannual agenda published by the agency Tuesday.

The DOI’s agenda includes six rules — all but one affect the energy industry — in the prerule, proposed rule or final rule stages, including the proposed blowout-preventer rule, pushed by the Obama administration in the wake of the Deepwater Horizon disaster...
