White House Threatens To Veto Superfund Reform Bill

Law360, Los Angeles (January 8, 2014, 9:58 PM EST) -- President Barack Obama threatened Wednesday to veto proposed House legislation that is intended to cut back environmental red tape and give states more control over federal facilities ahead of an expected vote Thursday, saying the bill would undermine Superfund cleanups.

In a statement released late Wednesday, the White House said that if Congress passes the bill, the president’s advisers will recommend he veto it, arguing that the legislation would hamper the federal government’s ability to effectively enact environmental cleanup projects.
