DOJ Civil, Criminal Cases Brought Over $8B In FY 2013

Law360, New York (January 9, 2014, 6:06 PM EST) -- The U.S. Department of Justice collected over $8 billion in civil and criminal actions in the 2013 fiscal year, with over $3 billion coming from health care fraud cases, as well as significant sums deriving from environmental and antitrust actions, Attorney General Eric Holder announced Thursday.

U.S. Attorneys collected big sums from health care giants Abbott Laboratories for its alleged violation of FDA safety laws, LCD manufacturer AU Optronics for its role in an international price-fixing scheme, and BP Exploration Production Inc. and Transocean Deepwater Inc....
