FHWA Seeks To Nix Enviro Challenge Of $3B Road Project

Law360, New York (January 10, 2014, 2:16 PM EST) -- The U.S. Federal Highway Administration moved to kill several conservation groups’ efforts to block part of a $3 billion expansion to Interstate 69, asking an Indiana federal court Thursday to nix the groups’ preliminary injunction and issue a summary judgement in the FHWA’s favor.

Delaying construction of the 142-mile expansion connecting the southwest portion of the state with Indianapolis, would create a significant cost to the FHWA and the Indiana Department of Transportation that would ultimately fall on the taxpayer, according to the motion.
