Chevron Faces $5B Suit Over Nigerian Rig Explosion

Law360, New York (January 13, 2014, 8:11 PM ET) -- Nigerian coastal residents struck Chevron Corp. with a $5 billion suit in California federal court on Monday over a deadly 2012 offshore natural gas rig explosion that allegedly poisoned their air and water.

The suit says Chevron’s negligence is to blame for an explosion that destroyed the K.S. Endeavour rig, a drilling platform six miles off the coast of southern Nigeria owned in part by its subsidiary Chevron Nigeria Ltd.
