Northwest Reaches Tentative Deal With Machinists

Law360, New York (January 17, 2006, 12:00 AM EST) -- Northwest Airlines Inc. has reached a tentative agreement with the union representing its machinists and aerospace workers, but has pushed ahead with efforts to nullify the collective bargaining agreement between the carrier and its remaining employees.

The number-five carrier in the United States, which filed for Chapter 11 protection in September 2005, is also asking the bankruptcy judge to modify its retiree employee benefits.
