Calif. Attys Charged In Scheme To Seize And Rent Homes

Law360, Los Angeles (January 16, 2014, 6:49 PM EST) -- Five people, including at least two attorneys, were arrested over an alleged scheme to steal some 23 homes from their original owners then rent them out for income, the California attorney general stated Wednesday.

State Attorney General Kamala Harris said the team ran a scheme using adverse possession laws, also known as squatter’s rights, to fraudulently seize 23 homes in nine states.
