Frere-Jones Hits Hoefler With $20M Suit Over Equity Row

Law360, Los Angeles (January 17, 2014, 6:35 PM EST) -- Tobias Frere-Jones hit Jonathan Hoefler, his former counterpart at type foundry Hoefler & Frere-Jones, with a $20 million breach of contract suit in New York state court on Thursday, accusing him of reneging on his promise to give Frere-Jones half the stake in the company.

Hoefler allegedly violated a deal under which Frere-Jones — who left the company last week — would contribute fonts he developed in exchange for half of Hoefler's equity in the company, giving the stake to his wife instead.
