GOP Sens. Blast HHS For Touting 'Free' Medicare Benefits

Law360, Washington (January 21, 2014, 3:20 PM EST) -- Six Republican senators criticized the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services on Tuesday for issuing a “misleading” statement lauding new Medicare benefits stemming from the Affordable Care Act, asking the agency to stop calling the new services “free.”

The senators took issue with a December HHS statement touting that 25 million original Medicare beneficiaries had received free preventative services thanks to the ACA, reminding the agency that “there is no such thing as a free lunch.”
