Deals Rumor Mill: Xstrata, Bain Capital, IBM

By Karlee Weinmann (January 22, 2014, 4:23 PM EST) -- The former head of Xstrata PLC is seeking at least $3 billion in investments as he eyes mine buys for his fledgling outfit X2 Resources, sources told Bloomberg on Wednesday. Mick Davis has raked in $1 billion so far, and is planning to acquire mines that are either already in operation or close to it. The mining magnate is considering limiting the number of investors in his new business to six or seven, with each posting a $500 million contribution to get things running. Davis is best known for his run atop Xstrata, the company that over a decade swelled from a $500 million market capitalization to a $50 billion industry titan....
