EU Extends VAT Pilot Program For Small-Business Owners

Law360, New York (January 22, 2014, 1:18 PM EST) -- The European Commission will extend for another year a pilot project that advises small and medium-sized enterprises on how their cross-border transactions will be treated for value-added tax purposes, the EC said Wednesday.

The project, which launched in June, requires participating countries to provide advance opinions on the VAT treatment of complex cross-border transactions that are submitted by small businesses. It’s part of the EC’s efforts to simplify VAT for businesses, which is a high priority for the commission.
