Neb. Bill Would Strip Churches Of Tax-Exempt Status

Law360, New York (January 24, 2014, 1:56 PM EST) -- A bill designed to strip Nebraska religious institutions of their property tax exemptions is headed to a revenue committee hearing Friday, moving it one step closer to approval by the Legislature.

Introduced in early January by Nebraska state Sen. Ernie Chambers, the Eliminate the Property Tax Exemption for Religious Organizations bill would return all real property, tangible depreciable personal property and motor vehicles owned and used by religious organizations to the state's tax rolls.
