Chinese Game Developer Gets $1.9B PE-Backed Offer

Law360, New York (January 27, 2014, 1:33 PM EST) -- Chinese game developer Shanda Games Ltd. said Monday it was reviewing a private equity-backed buyout proposal from its controlling shareholder that values the company at $1.9 billion, underscoring China's booming marketplace for online gaming.

The go-private bid comes on the heels of a huge year for Shanda Games, the company behind several of China's most popular mobile games and online multiplayer games. Since April, the company's stock value has increased more than 80 percent.
