NY Artist Sues Over Paintings Lost At Empire State Building

Law360, Los Angeles (January 29, 2014, 4:10 PM EST) -- A prominent New York modern artist is accusing Empire State Realty Trust Inc. of causing the destruction of paintings she was commissioned to create for display at the Empire State Building, according to a gross negligence lawsuit filed Monday in New York federal court.

Kysa Johnson alleges that her contract with the real estate investment trust's predecessor-in-interest, Empire State Building Co. LLC, stipulated that she would retain ownership of the six paintings — but that ESRT couldn't find them after taking the pieces off display....
