ARCO Settles Plant Neighbors' Claims For $27M

Law360, New York (March 19, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Neighbors of a former nuclear fuel operation in western Pennsylvania have agreed to a $27.5 million settlement with Atlantic Richfield Co. over claims that radioactive dust released by the facilities made them ill.

U.S. District Judge Donetta Ambrose issued an order approving the settlement Tuesday in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania. Litigation continues against the other defendants, Babcock & Wilcox Co. and affiliate B&W Nuclear Environmental Services Inc.

The settlement covers more than 240 personal injury claims or wrongful death claims...
