Food Giants Push For Federal, Voluntary GMO Labeling

Law360, New York (February 6, 2014, 3:28 PM EST) -- A coalition of the nation's most powerful food industry groups advocated Thursday for a voluntary federal standard for the labeling of genetically modified food, rather than the mandatory labeling under consideration in states across the country.

The Grocery Manufacturers Association, American Beverage Association, National Restaurant Association and 26 other groups are launching a campaign to persuade Congress to authorize the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to set a federal framework for the labeling.
