Robert Work Nominated For Deputy Defense Secretary

Law360, New York (February 7, 2014, 4:23 PM EST) -- Robert Work, a former Navy undersecretary and head of the Center for New American Security think tank, was nominated Friday as the next deputy defense secretary, filling a key position as the Pentagon's No. 2.

The Senate Armed Services committee scheduled a confirmation hearing for Tuesday, expediting the confirmation process and scooping the White House's official announcement by a few hours. Work was a member of President Barack Obama's transitional team, and the nomination was the subject of increasing speculation in recent days.
