EEOC Sues CVS For Restrictive Separation Agreements

Law360, New York (February 07, 2014, 6:39 PM ET) -- The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission filed a lawsuit Friday in Illinois federal court against CVS Pharmacy Inc. alleging the pharmacy chain's separation agreements unlawfully prevented employees from communicating with the agency or filing discrimination claims.

The EEOC says CVS conditioned nonstore employees' severance pay on an “overly broad, misleading and unenforceable” separation agreement that interfered with employees’ right to file charges with the EEOC and other fair employment practices agencies, or FEPAs, in violation of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act.
