HTC, Nokia Settle Smartphone IP Spat On Eve Of ITC Ruling

Law360, New York (February 7, 2014, 8:19 PM EST) -- HTC Corp. has agreed to pay royalties to Nokia Corp. to settle a patent infringement suit as the U.S. International Trade Commission was about to issue a ruling that could've banned some of the Taiwanese smartphone giant's devices, according to joint announcement by the companies Friday.

The so-called patent and technology collaboration agreement will give the wireless technology companies the rights to one another’s patents, strengthening Finland-based Nokia’s licensing offerings months after an ITC judge ruled that some HTC devices infringed a pair of Nokia patents....
