Gibson Guitar Sues Over 'Guitar Hero' Game

Law360, New York (March 21, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The wildly popular video games “Guitar Hero” and “Rock Band,” in which players use a guitar-shaped controller to play along with hit songs, have inspired Gibson Guitar Corp., maker of actual guitars, to sue the manufacturers and sellers of the games for patent infringement.

Nashville-based Gibson filed two lawsuits this week in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Tennessee, alleging that the games infringe a 1999 patent it holds on a virtual-reality music system.
