Youth Participation In ACA Rises Slightly In January

Law360, New York (February 12, 2014, 6:05 PM EST) -- The number of young adults participating in the Affordable Care Act’s marketplaces ticked up slightly in January but remained well below targets needed to ensure that health insurance companies aren’t swamped by costly older customers, according to government figures released Wednesday.

Last month, 27 percent of Americans who bought plans through ACA exchanges were in the highly coveted 18-34 age bracket. That was up from 24 percent in the previous three months, and it brought the overall youth participation rate to 25 percent.
