Humvee Maker Accused Of Ripping Off Frame Rail Design

Law360, New York (February 18, 2014, 3:13 PM EST) -- AM General, the company responsible for making Humvee vehicles for the U.S. military, was hit with a patent infringement suit in Indiana federal court Tuesday alleging it stole a design for frame rails from a man it contracted to consult on a project.

Phillip Ruehl of Wauwatosa, Wis., says he designed the Humvee frame rails before he was contracted by South Bend, Ind.-based AM General, but that the manufacturer has since used the patented design on its vehicles without compensating him.
