EPA Hits 35 Renovation Cos. With Lead Exposure Fines

Law360, New York (February 18, 2014, 4:34 PM EST) -- The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency said Tuesday that it has resolved lead dust exposure claims against 35 construction and training companies, striking deals that will bring in $274,000 in civil penalties for federal lead renovation, repair and painting violations.

The settlements include 17 contractors that worked on older homes without receiving the proper EPA certification and another 21 companies who did not follow lead-safe work practices, according to the agency.
