MediaTek Settles Patent Battle for $85M

Law360, New York (January 26, 2006, 12:00 AM EST) -- Calling a ceasefire to their patent infringement dispute, Taiwanese chip maker MediaTek Inc. has reached an $85 million settlement with U.S. competitor Zoran Corp. in the battle over optical disk controller chips.

The companies announced the multimillion dollar truce on Thursday, marking the end of a contentious patent struggle that dates back to 2004.

“Under the agreement, each party will dismiss its respective claims and counterclaims under all of the pending lawsuits,” said Zoran in a statement.
