Invitrogen Sues GE Over Enzyme Kit Patents

Law360, New York (March 27, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Biotech company Invitrogen Corp. hit General Electric Co.'s health care subsidiary with two lawsuits on Wednesday, alleging that GE is willfully infringing several patents related to reverse transcriptase enzyme kits and DNA amplification kits.

In the first lawsuit, filed in the Eastern District of Texas, Invitrogen accused GE of infringing six of its patents. All of the patents relate to reverse transcriptase enzyme kits — kits that use enzymes to convert strands of RNA into strands of DNA, usually for purposes of medical research.
