Wis. Bill Would OK Joint Tax Filing For Same-Sex Couples

Law360, New York (February 28, 2014, 5:45 PM EST) -- Same-sex couples in Wisconsin may soon be able to file their state income tax returns jointly, even though the state currently doesn't recognize same-sex marriage, if legislation introduced Thursday in the state's Assembly is enacted.

Wisconsin state law allows married heterosexual couples to file joint individual income tax returns, but Assembly Bill 822, which was introduced by 18 assembly members, wants to open that law to same-sex couples who are eligible to file joint federal income tax returns.
