Smartphone 'Kill Switch' Bill Gets Backing In Congress

Law360, New York (March 3, 2014, 1:46 PM EST) -- Federal legislation that would force mobile device giants such as Apple Inc. and Microsoft Corp. to implement “kill switch” technology to fight rampant crime took a small step forward on Monday when a New York congressman sponsored the Smartphone Theft Prevention Act.

Last month the bill was introduced in the U.S. Senate by Sen. Amy Klobuchar, D-Minn., along with Sens. Barbara Mikulski, D-Md., Richard Blumenthal, D-Conn. and Mazie Hirono, D-Hawaii.
