Wash. Passes E-Cig Tax, Exempts Doc-Prescribed Devices

Law360, New York (March 5, 2014, 1:39 PM EST) -- Washington state lawmakers on Tuesday passed legislation slapping a 75 percent excise tax on the sale of electronic cigarettes in the state, but the state took a novel approach by exempting electronic devices prescribed by a doctor for smoking cessation from the tax.
