NYC Car Wash Barons Pay $4M To End Labor Probe

Law360, New York (March 6, 2014, 3:23 PM EST) -- Three men who operate a New York City car wash empire have agreed to pay nearly $4 million back to 1,000 workers and to state agencies, after an investigation showed they underpaid workers and failed to carry enough workers' compensation insurance.

The settlement, tied to what New York State Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman's office characterized as six years of underpaid wages, were agreed to by John Lage, Michael Lage and Fernando Magalhaes, who operate 21 city car washes at the Lage and Magalhaes chains....
