Ariz. Senate OKs Electricity Tax Break For Manufacturers

Law360, New York (March 7, 2014, 3:41 PM EST) -- The Arizona Senate voted Thursday in favor of a bill that would exempt companies from paying state sales tax on electricity used for manufacturing or smelting.

The bill, which will now move on to the House, has the backing of Gov. Jan Brewer and the Arizona Chamber of Commerce. Currently, the state charges a rate of 5.6 percent on electricity used in the manufacturing process, and local governments generally impose an additional 2 percent or 3 percent on electricity usage.
