Tesoro Urges High Court Intervention In Alaska Tax Row

Law360, New York (March 10, 2014, 2:45 PM EDT) -- Petroleum giant Tesoro Corp. has asked the U.S. Supreme Court to review an Alaska high court ruling that allowed the state to tax an additional $75 million in income earned from an out-of-state subsidiary, saying Alaska's position could upend state taxation standards.

The dispute erupted after Alaska's Department of Revenue said income from a Tesoro subsidiary that operated in Texas and Bolivia was taxable in Alaska because the subsidiary was “functionally integrated” to a Tesoro Alaska unit even though the duo weren't vertically or horizontally integrated....
