DC Businessman Admits $3.3M In Illegal Campaign Donations

Law360, Los Angeles (March 10, 2014, 10:30 PM ET) -- A Washington D.C. businessman pled guilty Monday to felony campaign law violations stemming from a scheme in which he and his government contracting companies secretly funneled more than $3.3 million in illegal contributions to 28 political candidates, which reportedly included current D.C. Mayor Vincent Gray.

Jeffrey E. Thompson, 58, pled guilty before U.S. District Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly to two conspiracy counts, one federal and one D.C. offense, based on his operation of so-called shadow campaigns to fund federal and local political campaigns, according to prosecutors....
