Fracking Leaseholder Protections Advance In Pa. Senate

Law360, New York (March 12, 2014, 6:44 PM EDT) -- A Pennsylvania Senate committee on Tuesday advanced legislation intended to expand the rights of landowners who currently hold leases with gas companies for the exploration of natural gas.

The Senate Environmental Resources and Energy Committee moved forward a package of three bills introduced in January by Sen. Gene Yaw, R-Lycoming, which aims to give leaseholders greater transparency by allowing them to check gas company records to inspect payment details. It would also offer protections for landowners who challenge the accuracy of their royalty payments.
