Hellman & Friedman Swings $1.1B Deal For Education Co.

Law360, New York (March 13, 2014, 1:05 PM EDT) -- Hellman & Friedman LLC will buy education company Renaissance Learning Inc. from fellow private equity firm Permira for $1.1 billion, the companies said Thursday, in an acquisition Hellman & Friedman is calling one of the biggest in education technology history.

The deal is expected to close in the second quarter of 2014. It nets the San Francisco-headquartered private equity firm a company that provides almost 11 million students throughout the U.S. and around the world — from kindergarten through 12th grade — with online learning tools...
