Obama Calls On DOL To Broaden Overtime Protections

Law360, New York (March 13, 2014, 5:30 PM EDT) -- President Barack Obama directed the U.S. Department of Labor on Thursday to update regulations defining the scope of federal overtime pay protections, conceding that the changes won't please everyone but vowing to get input from both workers and businesses as the rules are revamped.

After a brief speech in the White House's East Room, Obama signed a memorandum instructing Secretary of Labor Thomas Perez to update the DOL's regulations on who falls under the ambit of the Fair Labor Standards Act's overtime pay requirements.
