Law360, New York (March 17, 2014, 8:40 PM ET) -- On March 3, with jury selection about to begin, Halifax Hospital Medical Center agreed to pay $85 million to settle Stark Law and False Claims Act violations alleged by a whistleblower and the federal government. Despite the hefty price tag though, no settlement was reached on the second half of the case, in which the government declined to intervene, concerning allegations that patients were admitted without medical necessity.
