NY AG Inks Deals With Reporting Cos. Over Hiring Practices

Schneiderman has reached agreements with four of the largest background check agencies in the U.S., under which they agreed to follow New York laws that make it illegal to automatically disqualify job applicants based solely on criminal history, Schneiderman announced Thursday.

The “industry-transforming” agreements with HireRight Inc., First Advantage, General Information Services Inc. and Sterling Infosystems prevent the agencies from automatically disqualifying applicants with criminal convictions and require the companies to defer those hiring decisions to the employers, who must...
