US Says ACA Insurers Must Cover Same-Sex Spouses

Law360, Los Angeles (March 14, 2014, 7:56 PM EDT) -- Health insurance companies providing coverage under the Affordable Care Act must cover same-sex couples as families, the federal government said Friday.

The discrimination policy doesn’t kick in until next year, according to a statement by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, but it requires insurers under the new health care law to provide benefits to same-sex couples in the same manner as opposite-sex couples.
